Volunteer Opportunities

There are so many ways to volunteer – find out how you can help deliver #SkillsforLife in our local community and give every young person a #PlacetoBelong.

Ages 4-6, Thursdays, 6:00pm to 6:45pm

Support our youngest members as they learn, play and grow in confidence through imaginative activities and simple adventures. Squirrel Team Members help deliver engaging sessions that promote friendship, teamwork and curiosity while ensuring every child feels included, valued and encouraged.

Ages 6-8, Wednesdays 6:30pm to 7:30pm

Help young people take their first steps in Scouting through fun games, crafts, outdoor activities and adventures. Beaver Team Members support weekly meetings, encourage young people to try new things, and help create a safe, welcoming and exciting environment where they can develop skills for life.

8-10.5, Tuesdays, 7:00pm to 8:15pm

Work with a lively group of young people to deliver a varied programme of challenges, skills, outdoor activities and fun. Cubs Team Members help young people develop confidence, independence and teamwork while supporting them on their Scouting journey.

Mondays, 7:00pm to 8:45pm

Help young people build practical skills, resilience and leadership through adventure, outdoor activities and community projects. Scouts Team Members support a programme that challenges young people, helps them achieve their goals and prepares them for the future.

Ages 14-18, Thursdays, 7:00pm to 8:45pm

Support older young people as they take on greater responsibility, develop leadership skills and participate in adventurous activities. Explorer Team Members act as facilitators and mentors, helping young people shape and lead their own programme while supporting them to achieve Scouting’s top awards, including the Chief Scout’s Platinum, Diamond and King’s Scout Awards. They help build confidence, independence and skills that prepare young people for adulthood.

Help organise and deliver our annual community events, including the Heald Green Bonfire & Fireworks Display and Plant Sale. This flexible role involves supporting planning, promotion, logistics and event-day activities, helping to raise vital funds for the Group and strengthening our connection with the local community.

Help look after our Scout Hut and ensure it remains a safe, welcoming and well-maintained space for young people and volunteers. The Building team coordinates routine maintenance, arranges repairs when needed, and helps keep the building ready for weekly activities, camps and special events.

Trustees ensure the group runs in a safe and legal manner, managing upkeep of the hut, rentals, finances, leadership and fundraising. Roles include chair, treasurer, secretary and member.
