Our Youth Joining Process

Here’s what happens when you register your child on our waiting list.

01

Join the Waiting List

Complete our online ScoutWorks waiting list form with your child’s details and your contact information.

02

Wait for a Space

Your child will be added to the waiting list for the appropriate section based on their age. If they remain on the waiting list as they get older, they will automatically move to the relevant section.

03

Receive an Offer

When a place becomes available, we’ll contact you by email to check whether you would still like your child to join. Please respond promptly, as places may be offered to another family if we don’t hear back.

04

Welcome to Scouts!

Once you’ve accepted the offer, your section team will provide information about starting, meeting times and what to bring.

Waiting List Information

Our younger sections, particularly Squirrels, Beavers and Cubs, are very popular and often have substantial waiting lists. Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee an immediate place for every child.

When Do New Members Join?

We normally welcome new members in January, April and September.

Occasionally, spaces may become available at other times if an existing member leaves.

How Do We Allocate Places?

When places become available, we consider applications using the following priorities, in order:

  1. Volunteer Parent or Family Member
Priority is given to families where a parent or family member volunteers with the Group.
  2. Location
Priority is given to families living in the SK8 3 and M22 5 postcode areas.
  3. Age
We consider age to help maintain appropriate numbers and a balanced age range within sections.
  4. Time on the Waiting List
We consider how long each child has been waiting for a place.

Membership System Transition

We are currently transitioning our membership system from Online Scout Manager (OSM) to ScoutWorks.

During this period, you may receive emails from both systems while we operate using a combination of the two.
