Nights Away (Residential and Camping)
We regular go camping or on residentials or lightweight expeditions. For our leaders to do that they need to gain the practical skills in running a residential sleepover or a camp. We usually encourage all our leaders to gain their residential permits and then those that are keen to take on camping and beyond we support through a camp training weekend.
The Group Lead Volunteer will be in touch to guide you through the Nights Away Process or reach out and they will be happy to help you.
A resource page will be added in 2026 to the website.
Adventurous Activity Permits
At 2nd Heald Green we support our leaders and supporting to obtain adventourous activity permits to take our young people on exciting adventures, we currently help and support the following:
General Walking (Terrain 0) anywhere up to 30 minutes walking from a road and below 500m – no specific permit required but we help gain confidence in navigation skills, what to do in an emergency and making walking fun on expeditions
Hill Walking (Terrain 1) which is for 500 to 800m and or more than 30 minutes walking from a major road/ building.
Archery – We have our own range and equipment and are keen to get more leaders who can lead archery.
Air Rifles – We have our own range and equipment and keen to get more leaders qualified in NRSA Youth Permit Scheme.
Artificial Climbing Wall – We regular use the mobile wall at Abney, Cheadle, Awesome Walls Stockport and Linnet Clough for taking our young people climbing and keen to get more leaders who can lead. We also support more advanced which includes Abseiling and Rock Climbing.
Tomahawk throwing – We have our own range, no formal permit but we offer training to run the activity safely and have fun!
We currently don’t support water activities due to the cost of equipment and time to obtain the qualification and is more cost effective to use external provides at Sale Canal or along the River Mersey/ Goyt Valley for exciting adventures. Leaders can borrow the District Canoes and equipment for their own adult scouting trips or if you have prior skills then reach out and we might be able to support a qualification.
We have a regular social group for the above activities where anyone can join to gain skills, help with the permit application or just for a social day out, speak to the Group Lead Volunteer or search for 2HG-Activities Activities and Permits group in whatsapp and join.
There are lots of other permitted activities so if you have a particular interest please reach out, we just currently are able to support the above due to existing skills and experience accross the group in our leaders.
You can find more about permits with the Cheshire or GME Adventurous Activities Teams
